The Django Plugables Project Blog

Howdy everybody! I’d like to be the first to welcome you to Django Plugables! By now most of you have already explored the site and I’m pretty psyched that so much has happened already via a twitter, a flickr photo and a few blog posts. Hell, I haven’t even done my own write up yet.

If you’re gawking at the fact that it’s simple, it is. I’m not a code monkey but I’m a designer with pretty good hold on the framework. The fact that I was able to go from idea to execution in 5 days has to count for something, right? :) Even so, I’m very grateful for all the support the site has gotten over the past few days. Especially from my colleagues at Sidebar, Eric Florenzano, Jannis Leidel and Justin Lilly (just to name a few).

Anyway, as it says on the front, what you see here is by no means feature complete. I’ve had larger plans for this from the beginning, but intentionally stopped myself from intentional feature creep since I felt the site as it is could stand alone. But why leave it at that?

Things I’ve already been working on:

  • Feeds — Right now there are feeds for recent commits and recently added projects, feeds for each project will be coming soon.
  • Taggingdjagno-tagging is in, I just have to actually tag everything in some semantic manner.
  • Voting — Along the lines of iusethis.com.
  • Comments — I’ll be integrating OpenID first, then a user registration system if needed. I don’t want to make everybody create YAL (yet another login).
  • Git and other SCM support — This is a hard one because it depends on python modules being available. :/
  • Project Statistics — Stuff above and beyond what Google Code or Trac shows. Can anybody say Ohloh?

If you have any ideas, questions or comments, please feel free to stop by the newly created Get Satisfaction area dedicated to Plugables. I hover over that thing like a hawk, so you won’t have to wait long for a reply. ;)

Thanks everybody! I’m looking forward to making this place awesome. :D
